Feast Of The Senses: Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 2014 #TCOF

Its that time of year again! Tickets are now on sale for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. That's right the program has officially launched and if you want a seat at some of the awesome events taking place you better be quick its only TWO WEEKS AWAY. The carnival is bigger and better than ever this year. As the title of the post suggests #tcof will be a "Feast of the Senses".

Although the flowers are still the central focus of the carnival there is SO MUCH MORE happening as well.

Music...food...fashion...entertainment for the kids...I recommend getting a room in Toowoomba (if you still can) and making a trip of it. You are not going to want to miss a second of this year's carnival. If you have trouble finding accommodation - dont fret- after all Toowoomba is only an hour out of Brisbane.

We were invited along on a famil to launch this year's carnival and we the absolute BEST time. By the end of our 2 day trip we were buzzing with excitement. Once we arrived in Toowoomba we checked into our rooms at the new City Golf Motel. The rooms were super stylish, and vibrant. My eyes instantly went to the crate of goodies on our bed stand. It was packed full of regional produce like wine, fudge, nuts, olive oil etc. The perfect surprise for two foodies!

What a haul! Wines, fudge, peanuts, and more...

After check in, we jumped back on the bus and headed to our next location, Laurel Bank Park. We unfortunately did not get to see the park when it was in full bloom, but our host described in great detail what its like during the festival. In short, it's going to be a flower wonderland. If you are horticultural-ly inclined (and also asthmatic ) I recommend taking along an inhaler (yeah it's going insane). You don't have to be a horticultural expert to enjoy the flower portion of the  carnival, however. Everyone can appreciate the beauty. If you are a photographer the #tcof is an excellent photo shoot opportunity. Picturesque!

The beautiful opera singers decked out in their elegant formal attire...

The delicious regional food platters we were presented with at the park...

On our visit to Laurel Bank Park we were serenaded by operactic versions of Disney classics. You can enjoy a similar experience during #TCOF on Sept. 20 Parkland Wonderland will be taking place in Laurel Bank Park. And it's FREE! The performers will dress in Alice in Wonderland costumes and provide entertainment for the whole family.

In Queens Park you can attend 'Divas in the Park' on Sept. 21- two opera singers (in stunning opera gowns) will perform popular classical tunes from 11am-2pm.

Next we headed to The Cube Hotel for the official launch of the carnival. This is where they unveiled the program for the first time. Some of our program highlights are:

- Gala Dinner (few spots still available)

A glass of sparkling to begin a beautiful evening...

Following the launch was dinner at The Angel Cafe. We were lucky enough to be among the first to try the menu for the Gala Dinner that will take place during the carnival. The menu is an incredibly mouthwatering journey featuring regional produce in innovative ways. A credit to the amazing chef at the Angel Cafe. We felt priveledge to be among such great company trying these amazing dishes. Check out some pictures from our dinner below:

The incredibly tender eye fillet with garlic and thyme kilper potatoes in duck fat, tempura zucchini flowers, blistered cherry tomatoes, shiraz red wine jus

Slow braised pork belly, apple puree, watercress, shaved fennel, rhubarb dressing

De-constructed mille- fueille, creme fraiche vanilla chantilly, sweetened puff pastry, raspberries and blueberries, fresh strawberries, and micro mint

We woke up with a huge smile on our face the next morning- ready to tackle the day. Our first stop was the City Golf Club for breakfast. If you are in Toowoomba for the festival I definitely reccomend grabbing a quick hot breakky with the family at the City Golf Club. Very reasonably priced, and so filling. After brekky we were treated to a historic golf experience on the greens. Turns out I'm not a secret golf prodigy...

A delicious hot brekky from the City Golf Club...sausages, eggs, bacon- YUM...

Next stop, we got a tour of the historic Empire Theatre. We even got to view the new extension before it opens to the public. It's absolutely stunning inside. The building has been preserved so well. It was like being transported back in time.

The gorgeous stain glass windows in the old church next door that was purchased by the Empire theatre...
The seating area in the empire theatre...each seat has its own air conditioner...

We wrapped up this awesome launch event (or trip) with a quick look at the famous Queens Park and Picnic Point. Both MUST SEE's if you are in Toowoomba for the carnival. Queen's Park will be the main attraction during TCOF. The beautiful flowers will be absolutely breathtaking. It's a sight you do not want to miss.

We had a fanastic, and memorable experience in Toowoomba for the famil and now the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is all we can think about! See you guys in Toowoomba!
