Seafood, spectacular views, and lots of bubbly: My 21st Birthday Trip To Rainbow Beach...

On July 26 I turned the BIG TWO ONE! To celebrate we took a trip to Rainbow Beach. I'm not much of a party girl. I love low key, romantic birthday celebrations (with a few memorable experiences thrown in). That is exactly what I got this year!

I had never been to Rainbow Beach but I'd heard great things. I'm not extremely hard to please...give me a villa on the beach and a bottle of bubbly and I'm a happy girl. That's romance...

We ALWAYS go on a trip for birthdays. I firmly believe that you should NEVER celebrate your birthday at home.

The exquisite colours of Rainbow beach at sunrise...

When you think of your 16th, 18th, or 21st birthday your memories should be picturesque. You shouldn't get an image of your local cinema... Go somewhere you've always wanted to go. It doesn't have to be on the other side of the world. Rainbow beach is about a 3 hours drive from Brisbane. We neared the coast as the sun was setting and the colours were absolutely mesmerizing.

Waves crashing as the sunrises in the sky...
Any fears we my have had were quickly squashed as soon as we stepped into our beautiful beach villa. The ceilings were very high, which gave a nice openness to the rooms. The floors were gleaming, freshly polished timber. The decor had that beachy feel to it with various hues of blue. There were lovely murals hanging on the walls depicting the Rainbow Beach area.

The villas come with a full kitchen, equipped with dinnerware, cookware, and cutlery. Everything you need to cook up a feast. The bed was plush, clean, and well made. You have your own personal access to the beach. You feel so secluded surrounded by bush lands. There is a grilling area only a few steps away, and a pool!

There aren't many restaurant choices in the area. Its a very small town. Rainbow Beach hasn't been over developed, like the Gold Coast which adds to its appeal and charm. We had dinner the first night at the Break Free Rainbow Shores restaurant known as "The Pavilion". While we were there we quickly learned from the staff that the restaurant would be closing soon. This is a real shame since the town only has about 5 other options. We were very surprised to learn that the restaurant hadn't been doing well especially after we had eaten.

The food was exceptional. I had one of the BEST lamb dishes I have EVER eaten at The Pavillion. It was so exquisite that the taste is firmly ingrained in my memory. Check out photos from our dinner below:

We won't tease you with a full review of the restaurant since it will be closing very soon. For our last night we cooked a seafood feast while watching Masterchef on television. We picked up some local, fresh seafood from Lee's Fishing Co in Tin Can Bay. It was worth the short drive to get there. Lee's has a wonderful fresh seafood selection to choose from. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They gave us a quick class on how to break into Moreton Bay Bugs and even let us sample the bugs. They were so good! He gave us a peek in the back at some of the freshly caught snappers- they were massive.

We had a great first experience at Break Free Rainbow Shores. If you are looking for privacy, and comfort I recommend staying at one of the villas at BreakFree Rainbow Shores. It is a short drive from popular tourist destinations like the coloured sands, and Carlo Sandblow. MUST SEE's if you are in the area. Carlo Sandblow is the epitome of raw beauty. A sight you are truly blessed if you get a chance to see. Darrell has set the bar pretty high this year!

  1. C. Hawkins! You are absolutely right we should never celebrate our birthday at home. We should go out somewhere to make this day a memorable day. I am glad to see this you celebrated your birthday at rainbow beach. It is a very fascinating beach. I had gone there during my New York Vacation. It was an outstanding day. We enjoyed with delicious seafood. I cannot forget that day. At this beach we cannot think about any other thing of this world.
