Brunch @ Canter & Colt Cafe in Samford
Some people believe the only way to truly eat healthy is to cook at home. That's the farthest thing from truth really. We've managed to find a place where you don't have to feel guilty...you CAN keep those resolutions in tact.
The answer is Canter & Colt in Samford Village! This organic cafe is nestled on the porch of the Four Seasons Organic grocer. Four Season's provides all the ingredients and fresh organic produced used on the Canter & Colt menu.
Since Canter & Colt was the first organic cafe we'd ever been to we decided to leave ourselves in Carina's capable hands. To start us off we had the Cacao Heaven smoothie (cacao powder, almond milk, banana, raw cacao nibs, maca powder, shredded coconut, honey, and cinnamon), The Greener the Better (spinach, kale, celery, mint, apple, ginger, lemon & tumeric) cold pressed juice, and a skinny cappuccino.
Shortly after receiving our beverages our first two dishes came out. We had the BA-NA-NA bread which is two slices of Sol banana and walnut bread topped with sliced banana, coconut flakes, w/ strawberries and apple syrup on the side.
I don't even know how describe how AMAZING this was. I only wish I had it in front of me right now! Fresh, moist banana and walnut bread drizzled with a divine syrup...covered in delicious berries. The presentation was elegant. So nice to look at but even better to devour. You must try this bread. It's life changing!
Next we had the Acai bowl which was filled with acai, frozen fruit, coconut water, apple juice, topped with fresh organic berries, house made granola and maple syrup. This was a bowl of intense fruity flavor. It also had a nice crunch to it which I loved. A very refreshing and light brunch option.
Next up was the C&C smash. It consisted of smashed avocado on your choice of bread topped with barambah marinated fetta, tomato, sunflower sprouts, and served with a wedge of lemon.
A nice & light brunch option. I am obsessed with avocado on toast and this dish was exceptional. The C&C smash is perfect in every way. The flavors compliment each other so well.
We also enjoyed the Paleo Tuna Mix. It consisted of deep sea tuna, diced tomato, avocado, red onion, and coriander mixed with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and rock salt with non-paleo options served on your choice of bread.
Mouth-watering! It was hard to get Darrell to share this one. He adores tuna but we'd never had it quite like this. Such a sensational combination! Those juicy chunks of tuna...yum! The team at Canter & Colt are making top notch meals without even using a kitchen.
We finished of our Canter & Colt experience with a protein hit. The protein balls are filled with cashews, almonds, dates, maca powder, raw cacao, brown rice protein powder, chia seeds, goji berries, coconut, maple syrup, and coconut oil - a Canter & Colt creation! They tasted like candy and left you feeling nice & full afterwords.
With such a large variety of options it is our opinion that Canter & Colt has something for everyone... (Paleo, gluten free, vegan, dairy free, etc) You don't have to feel guilty for eating out! The amazing food & hospitality make it well worth a trip to Samford Village. Not to mention how stunning it is in the Samford Valley! Day trip, perhaps? Sounds like a plan!
